Reflection #2

The Speaking In Tongues video really got my attention.  I think it is so unique that students are given the chance to become bilingual at such an early stage! It is also unique that they do it in a classroom setting and the parents don't necessarily have to be bilingual.  It has really provoked thought for what I want my future classroom to be like as well as my own child.  As I continue to learn Spanish, I am always wishing I had the chance to practice it more as a young child.  Although my Spanish instruction began in 1st grade, it was not practiced regularly and communicational vocabulary was not taught; making it difficult to use it anywhere but inside the classroom.  It is my goal to not only have my kids be bilingual but also to help students become bilingual by teaching them English as a secondary or primary language.  I feel so strongly about this because I am beginning to see the benefits of speaking multiple languages as a grow older and start my career search.  Not only does this help job-wise, but it is also helpful when trying to communicate with people around you who may not be proficient in the English language.  It allows for students to accept other cultures and become more familiar with them, which leads to a better understanding and cooperation with people of other cultures in the future.  The Speaking In Tongues video has not only increased my passion for teaching abroad but it as inspired me in many ways as to what to do with my own child.  I am getting more and more excited for the future to come!
