Danielle Cowper Reflection #1

This class is very much out of my element already. Not being a TESOL or language major sometimes makes me feel out of place in comparison to some other students in this class. However, being a Child Development and Elementary Education major, I feel that this class will definitely be beneficial to me - since ESL/ELL students are becoming so much more prominent in ALL classrooms. I'm not going to lie, I am taking this class because it fulfills a requirement for me, BUT I chose this class out of the 'box' because focusing on teaching ESL/ELL students is something that has been covered very little in my other education classes. I am confident that I will have a student in my class at some point who does not speak English as his or her first language - so I am excited for this class to teach me some new skills that I will be able to use in my classroom. I believe that the things I will learn in this class will not only benefit the ESL students in my classroom, but perhaps the English speaking student who struggles with learning a grammar concept as well (for example). Though I am defiantly new to this style of teaching - I am ready to learn from my classmates with ESL/ELL teaching experience and apply it to my teaching portfolio as well. I hope to have more exciting things to post about as the semester goes on :)
